Motorcycle rental insurance is different from the normal motorcycle insurance available from most insurance service providers. These insurances must cover the basic state requirements apart from the physical damage insurance. A person can also go in for supplemental insurance cover that increases the monetary coverage per occurrence. Most companies have added features available on their motorcycle rental insurance policies. If the hired vehicle has suddenly broken down, free towing services are available. If the vehicle has a flat tire or a dead battery, assistance is usually provided to the insured. Some companies provide for monetary reimbursement to cover other costs till such time a replacement motorcycle is not available.
State laws have their own requirements for motorcycle rental insurance. In the state of California for example it is mandatory for the person taking the motorcycle on rent to get the insurance done and pay for the premium till the time the vehicle is on rent. Basic insurance as required by law provides for monetary coverage to public and property in the event the motorcycle is involved in an accident that puts both life of others and property at risk. This is known as State Liability Coverage. Basic cover also includes Comprehensive Coverage, Medical Coverage and Collision Coverage, each coming with a specific monetary value as deductible.
Motorcycle insurance is now made more attractive and premium payments are calculated on a daily payment method. This makes it all the more easier since the person taking the vehicle would be paying for exact number of days that the motorcycle was hired out. Some people want to add this as a component to the already existing policy that they would be having. They can do so but the complications and the costs are high, and so are the botheration of adding on the rental components. Moreover, the actual premium cost exclusively for the rental period can never be found out.
Associations or organizations renting out motor cycles do not encourage inclusion of rental costs to the price of the basic policy that the person already has. If a person renting out the vehicle wants to include the insurance in the policy, while there may not be objections available in the event of an accident or mechanical failure of the vehicle, the responsibility for the losses and damages will lie on him.
